S.F. _____ H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 153.33, subsection 3, Code 2015, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 3. All employees needed to administer this chapter except 3 the executive director shall be appointed pursuant to the merit 4 system. The executive director shall serve at the pleasure of 5 the board and shall be exempt from the merit system provisions 6 of chapter 8A, subchapter IV. 7 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION . 153.33B Executive director —— duties. 8 The board shall appoint a full-time executive director. The 9 executive director shall not be a member of the board. The 10 duties of the executive director shall be the following: 11 1. To receive all applications for the following: 12 a. Licensure as a dentist or dental hygienist. 13 b. Registration as a dental assistant. 14 c. Permission to administer sedation or anesthesia. 15 d. Any other activity for which an application to the board 16 is required. 17 2. To collect and receive all fees. 18 3. To keep all records pertaining to licensure, 19 registration, enforcement, and other board actions, including a 20 record of all board proceedings. 21 4. To perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the 22 board. 23 5. To appoint assistants to the director and other persons 24 necessary to administer this chapter. 25 EXPLANATION 26 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 27 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 28 This bill provides for the appointment of an executive 29 director for the dental board. The bill enumerates powers 30 for the executive director consistent with the powers granted 31 to executive directors of other independent health care 32 professional licensing boards such as the board of medicine and 33 the board of nursing.
