S.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 602.3204 Transcript integrity. 1 A certified shorthand reporter taking a deposition, or 2 a principal or employer with whom the certified shorthand 3 reporter has a principal-agent or employer-employee 4 relationship, shall not enter into an agreement for shorthand 5 reporting services that requires the certified shorthand 6 reporter taking the deposition to relinquish control of an 7 original deposition transcript and copies of the transcript 8 before the transcript is certified and delivered to the 9 custodial attorney. 10 EXPLANATION 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 13 This bill relates to agreements for shorthand reporting 14 services by certified shorthand reporters. 15 The bill prohibits a certified shorthand reporter from 16 entering into a contract for shorthand reporting services that 17 requires the shorthand reporter, or the shorthand reporter’s 18 principal or employer, to relinquish control of an original 19 deposition transcript before it has been certified by the court 20 reporter and delivered to the custodial attorney. 21 -1- LSB 1510XC (2) 86 jh/rj 1/ 1
