Senate Resolution 7 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7 BY ANDERSON A Resolution recognizing February 2015 as Turner 1 Syndrome Awareness Month. 2 WHEREAS, Turner Syndrome (TS) is a chromosomal 3 condition that occurs when one of the two X chromosomes 4 normally found in females is missing or contains 5 structural defects; and 6 WHEREAS, currently no cause is known for TS; and 7 WHEREAS, over 70,000 women and girls are living with 8 TS in the United States; and 9 WHEREAS, characteristics of TS may include 10 congenital heart disease, osteoporosis, type 11 II diabetes, obesity, and nonverbal learning 12 disabilities; and 13 WHEREAS, increased awareness of TS among health care 14 professionals and the general public will help promote 15 early diagnosis, encourage affected women and girls to 16 seek treatment and to utilize support groups, and raise 17 support for organizations dedicated to improving the 18 lives of those with this condition; NOW THEREFORE, 19 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 20 recognizes the month of February 2015 as Turner 21 Syndrome Awareness Month and invites the citizens of 22 Iowa to educate themselves and others with regard to 23 the diagnosis, treatment, and support of those women 24 and girls affected by Turner Syndrome. 25 -1- LSB 2046XS (5) 86 rj/nh 1/ 1
