honoring
the
City
of
Solon
on
its

quartoseptcentennial.

WHEREAS,
the
City
of
Solon,
founded
in
1840,
is
3
celebrating
its
175th
anniversary;
and
4
WHEREAS,
according
to
lore,
Solon
was
named
for
the
5
son
of
one
of
Solon’s
founders
and
for
the
classical
6
Athenian
statesman,
lawmaker,
and
lyric
poet
Solon;
and
7
WHEREAS,
for
175
years
Solon
has
through
its
8
outstanding
schools,
renowned
Beef
Days
Celebration,
9
and
wonderful
outdoor
recreation
activities
and
parks,
10
contributed
to
the
culture,
well-being,
and
prosperity
11
of
Iowa;
and
12
WHEREAS,
the
citizens
of
Solon,
through
their
13
honest,
hard
work
and
dedication
to
the
community,
14
have
built
a
foundation
to
ensure
that
Solon
remains
a
15
thriving
community
for
years
to
come;
and
16
WHEREAS,
for
the
purpose
of
celebrating
the
17
175th
anniversary
of
its
founding,
Solon
will
hold
18
a
community-wide
gathering
known
as
a
chautauqua
on
19
September
18-20
of
this
year
to
honor
the
achievements
20
and
unique
history
of
the
community;
and
21
WHEREAS,
the
festivities
of
the
Solon
chautauqua
22
celebration
will
include
cultural
art
demonstrations,
23
historical
displays
and
parades,
tours
of
the
city
and
24
local
attractions,
music
performances,
local
cuisine,
25
children’s
activities,
and
an
ecumenical
worship
26
service;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate

hereby
honors
and
commemorates
the
founding
of
the

City
of
Solon
and
encourages
all
Iowans
and
visitors

to
the
state
to
celebrate

city’s
