WHEREAS,
the
Morningside
College
women’s
basketball

team,
the
Mustangs,
are
national
champions
once
again,

winning
the
National
Association
of
Intercollegiate

Athletics
(NAIA)
Division
II
Women’s
Basketball
6
National
Championship
for
the
fourth
time;
and
7
WHEREAS,
the
Morningside
Mustangs
held
the
top
spot
8
on
each
of
the
11
regular
season
polls
and
ended
the
9
season
with
37
wins
and
1
loss;
and
10
WHEREAS,
Morningside
never
led
in
the
first
half
11
of
the
championship
game,
but
persevered
to
turn
the
12
contest
around
in
the
final
seconds,
breaking
a
57-57
13
tie
when
Lexi
Ackerman
was
fouled
and,
with
two
seconds
14
remaining,
sank
two
free
throws
for
a
59-57
victory,
15
making
this
the
closest
winning
margin
in
NAIA
Division
16
II
Championship
game
history;
and
17
WHEREAS,
the
Morningside
Mustangs
played
the
18
championship
game
without
the
team’s
leading
scorer
19
and
rebounder,
senior
forward
Ashlynn
Muhl,
who
20
underwent
surgery
one
day
prior
to
the
start
of
the
21
tournament;
and
22
WHEREAS,
teammates
Jessica
Tietz,
Jordyn
23
Wollenburg,
and
Allison
Bachman
were
respectively
24
named
the
tournament’s
most
valuable
player,
given
25
the
tournament’s
hustle
award,
and
named
to
the
26
all-tournament
second
team;
and

Coach
Jamie
Sale,
named
2015
Division
II

Coach
of
the
Year,
has
accumulated
an
enviable
record
2
during
his
13
years
at
Morningside,
including
by
taking

the
Mustangs
to
NAIA
II
national
championships
in
2004,
4
2005,
and
2009,
as
well;
NOW
THEREFORE,
5
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
6
congratulates
Coach
Jamie
Sale,
the
other
members
of
7
the
Mustangs
coaching
staff,
and
the
members
of
the
8
2014-2015
Morningside
Mustangs
women’s
basketball
team
9
for
a
thrilling
season
that
culminated
in
the
NAIA
10
Division
II
Women’s
Basketball
National
Championship.
