Senate Resolution 3 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3 BY DIX A Resolution honoring the quasquicentennial anniversary 1 of Ellsworth Community College. 2 WHEREAS, Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls 3 was established in 1890 as the private Ellsworth 4 Academy by Professor John Tobin; and 5 WHEREAS, the institution was named after Eugene 6 Ellsworth, a prominent citizen who provided much of the 7 financing for the first building and subsequent growth 8 of the college; and 9 WHEREAS, the first classes began in 1890 with 50 10 students enrolled; and 11 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa Falls voted in 1928 12 to make Ellsworth a public junior college under 13 the dual jurisdiction of the Iowa Falls Community 14 School District and the Ellsworth College Board of 15 Trustees; and 16 WHEREAS, Ellsworth Community College became part 17 of Iowa Valley Community College District in 1968, 18 following establishment of the statewide system of 19 community colleges in 1965; and 20 WHEREAS, Ellsworth Community College continues 21 to honor the legacy of Eugene Ellsworth by helping 22 students solve problems, clarify options, broaden 23 their horizons, build on their strengths, set goals, 24 and achieve their dreams through a quality college 25 education; NOW THEREFORE, 26 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 27 congratulates the Ellsworth Community College 28 -1- LSB 2073SS (1) 86 rj/nh 1/ 2
