Senate Resolution 17 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17 BY TAYLOR A Resolution congratulating Mikaela Foecke for her 1 success on and off the volleyball court. 2 WHEREAS, high school senior Mikaela Foecke, who 3 attends Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Fort 4 Madison, has recently been named the 2014-2015 Gatorade 5 National Volleyball Player of the Year, becoming the 6 first prep athlete from Iowa to win national Gatorade 7 honors in any sport throughout the award’s 30-year 8 history; and 9 WHEREAS, Ms. Foecke has also been named the National 10 Volleyball Player of the Year and a member of the 11 American Family Insurance ALL-USA First Team by USA 12 TODAY Sports; and 13 WHEREAS, Ms. Foecke has been described as having 14 “cemented a place as one of the state’s greatest prep 15 athletes ever” by the Des Moines Register; and 16 WHEREAS, this past volleyball season, the 17 6-foot-3-inch middle blocker slammed 812 kills and 18 amassed 270 digs, 170 service aces, and 95 blocks, 19 leading the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders to a 48-4 20 record and the school’s first state title in any 21 sport; and 22 WHEREAS, Ms. Foecke was named captain of the Class 23 1A All-State Tournament Team, concluding her prep 24 career with a state record of 2,813 kills; and 25 WHEREAS, Ms. Foecke was previously a two-time 26 Gatorade State Volleyball Player of the Year and 27 an American Family Insurance ALL-USA High School 28 -1- LSB 2343XS (2) 86 rj/nh 1/ 2
S.R. 17 Volleyball honoree, and set a 2014 state tournament 1 record for kills in a match with 37; and 2 WHEREAS, Ms. Foecke anchored the U.S. Women’s 3 Junior National Team that won gold at last summer’s 4 Women’s U20 Continental Championship sponsored by 5 the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball 6 Confederation; and 7 WHEREAS, Ms. Foecke has maintained a 3.9 grade point 8 average, is a member of her school’s student council, 9 an officer in her Lee County 4-H chapter, an Iowa State 10 Fair Merit of Excellence award winner, and a volunteer 11 in her hometown for numerous community-service 12 organizations; NOW THEREFORE, 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 14 congratulates Mikaela Foecke for her tremendous success 15 on the volleyball court, for her other outstanding 16 accomplishments at her high school, and for her 17 dedication in working to benefit her community. 18 -2- LSB 2343XS (2) 86 rj/nh 2/ 2
