Senate Resolution 117 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 117 BY DVORSKY , HOGG , HORN , KINNEY , BOLKCOM , MATHIS , BRASE , BOWMAN , SCHOENJAHN , QUIRMBACH , McCOY , JOCHUM , GRONSTAL , COURTNEY , DEARDEN , TAYLOR , WILHELM , BISIGNANO , PETERSEN , DOTZLER , HART , RAGAN , ALLEN , KAPUCIAN , and ZUMBACH A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the 1 Kirkwood Community College men’s basketball team 2 on winning the National Junior College Athletic 3 Association Division II National Championship on 4 March 19, 2016. 5 WHEREAS, the Kirkwood Community College men’s 6 basketball team (the Eagles) made its first appearance 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association 8 Division II National Tournament since 2011, entering as 9 the sixth-ranked team in the nation; and 10 WHEREAS, the Eagles began the tournament by 11 defeating Frederick College by 25 points, followed by 12 an overtime win over ninth-ranked Louisburg College and 13 a victory against third-ranked Essex County College to 14 reach the final; and 15 WHEREAS, Kirkwood faced the nation’s top-ranked team 16 from Triton College in the final, holding on despite 17 some anxious moments down the stretch to defeat the 18 Triton Trojans 83 to 76; and 19 WHEREAS, the Eagles finished the season with a 20 record of 31 wins and 4 losses to claim the program’s 21 second national title in school history; and 22 WHEREAS, Head Coach Bryan Petersen, in his third 23 season leading the team, credited the players’ talent, 24 -1- LSB 6077SS (3) 86 tr/rn 1/ 2
