WHEREAS,
Dick
Dearden
was
born
and
raised,
and

resides
with
his
wife
Sharon
in
Des
Moines;
and
4
WHEREAS,
Dick
Dearden
was
first
elected
to
the
5
Senate
in
1994
and
has
served
in
the
Senate
for
over
6
two
decades
representing
the
northeast
part
of
Des
7
Moines
and
Pleasant
Hill;
and
8
WHEREAS,
over
these
many
years,
Senator
Dearden
9
served
on
a
variety
of
legislative
committees,
10
including
the
Natural
Resources
and
Environment
11
(Chair),
Business
and
Labor
(Chair),
Ethics
(Vice
12
chair),
Labor
and
Business
Relations
(Vice
chair),
13
Rules
and
Administration,
Human
Resources,
Local
14
Government,
Appropriations,
State
Government,
and
15
Transportation
standing
committees,
and
the
Agriculture
16
and
Natural
Resources
(Vice
chair),
Health
and
Human
17
Rights,
and
Transportation,
Infrastructure,
and
18
Capitals
appropriations
subcommittees;
and
19
WHEREAS,
Senator
Dearden
has
long
been
a
champion
20
for
the
working
people
and
families
of
Iowa
and
has
21
been
a
leader
in
efforts
to
rebuild
the
middle
class
22
in
this
state
as
the
co-sponsor
of
a
bill
to
raise
the
23
minimum
wage;
and
24
WHEREAS,
Senator
Dearden
is
an
avid
hunter
and
25
fisher
and
is
a
member
of
the
Izaak
Walton
League,
26
Pheasants
Forever,
Ducks
Unlimited,
and
the
National
27
Wild
Turkey
Federation;
and

WHEREAS,
Senator
Dearden
has
been
a
strong
1
and
consistent
advocate
for
the
development
and
2
preservation
of
the
natural
resources
of
the
state
of
3
Iowa
for
over
20
years;
and
4
WHEREAS,
Senator
Dearden
has
worked
with
diverse
5
stakeholders
to
establish
a
vision
of
the
future
6
for
natural
resources
and
outdoor
recreation
in
this
7
state;
and
8
WHEREAS,
in
retirement
Senator
Dearden
will
9
have
more
time
to
enjoy
hunting
on
properties
with
10
improved
public
access
and
fishing
in
high-quality
11
streams
across
the
state,
many
of
which
he
has
been
12
instrumental
in
developing
and
preserving;
NOW
13
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate
honors
15
and
thanks
Senator
Dick
L.
Dearden
for
his
decades
of
16
service
in
the
Senate,
and
wishes
him
and
his
family
17
all
the
best
in
the
years
to
come.
