WHEREAS,
the
State
of
Iowa
and
the
State
of
Israel
4
have
a
deep
history
of
friendship
and
are
allies
in
5
support
of
each
other’s
interests;
and
6
WHEREAS,
the
State
of
Israel,
the
only
democracy
in
7
the
Middle
East,
is
a
genuine
friend
and
strategic
ally
8
of
the
United
States
in
the
Middle
East;
and
9
WHEREAS,
the
Iowa
Senate
recognizes
the
importance
10
of
expressing
support
for
the
Jewish
people
and
11
the
State
of
Israel’s
right
to
exist
and
right
of
12
self-defense;
and
13
WHEREAS,
the
Iowa
Senate
recognizes
that
the
14
Palestinian
people
have
the
right
to
live
in
peace
with
15
stability
and
the
right
of
self-determination;
and
16
WHEREAS,
strong
cultural,
economic,
social,
17
business,
governmental,
and
educational
relationships
18
exist
between
the
State
of
Iowa
and
the
State
of
Israel
19
and
between
the
State
of
Iowa
and
the
Palestinian
20
people;
and
21
WHEREAS,
Iowans
of
all
faiths
remain
committed
22
to
a
two-state
solution,
a
Jewish
homeland,
and
23
a
Palestinian
state
living
side-by-side
in
peace,
24
prosperity,
and
security
as
envisioned
by
the
historic
25
Oslo
Accords;
and
26
WHEREAS,
legitimate
concerns
regarding
future
27
relations
between
Israelis
and
Palestinians
are
best

addressed
through
the
pursuit
and
realization
of

a
negotiated
settlement
resulting
in
a
two-state

solution;
and

WHEREAS,
the
Iowa
Senate
recognizes
that
a
two-state
5
solution
is
the
best
way
for
Israel
to
achieve
6
long-term
international
recognition
and
security
and
7
for
the
Palestinian
people
to
achieve
their
national
8
aspirations;
NOW
THEREFORE,
9
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Iowa
Senate
10
recognizes
and
reaffirms
its
support
of
the
Jewish
11
State
of
Israel
as
well
as
its
support
for
a
negotiated
12
settlement
resulting
in
a
Palestinian
State
with
the
13
right
of
self-determination
living
in
peace
next
to
the
14
State
of
Israel;
and
15
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Iowa
Senate
16
supports
Iowans
of
all
backgrounds
and
of
all
faiths
17
in
seeking
peace
and
justice
for
all
people
and
swift
18
resolutions
to
conflicts
around
the
globe.
