Senate Resolution 11 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 11 BY WHITVER and CHELGREN A Resolution requesting the legislative council to 1 establish an interim study committee to study 2 elimination of the income tax in Iowa. 3 WHEREAS, the Iowa income tax creates a substantial 4 financial burden on the citizens of this state as they 5 work hard to grow businesses, educate their children, 6 and save for their future; and 7 WHEREAS, the collection and administration of the 8 income tax represents a substantial expense to the 9 state of Iowa; and 10 WHEREAS, elimination of the income tax could have 11 a positive impact on Iowa’s taxpayers, economy, and 12 job growth, without limiting the state’s ability to 13 provide for the protection, security, and benefit of 14 its citizens; NOW THEREFORE, 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 16 formally requests the legislative council to authorize 17 and establish an interim study committee, composed of 18 members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, 19 to commence meeting during the 2015 interim as soon 20 as practicable. The purpose of the interim committee 21 is to study the feasibility of eliminating the income 22 tax in Iowa and to receive and make recommendations 23 regarding elimination of the income tax, submitting the 24 study committee’s conclusions and recommendations in a 25 report to the general assembly by January 1, 2016. 26 -1- LSB 2094XS (2) 86 mm/rj 1/ 1
