WHEREAS,
Operation
Desert
Shield/Desert
Storm

occurred
from
August
2,
1990,
to
April
6,
1991,
in
the
5
Middle
East;
and
6
WHEREAS,
Iowa-based
National
Guard
and
Reserve
7
units,
and
selected
personnel,
were
deployed
to
8
the
Middle
East
in
support
of
Operation
Desert
9
Shield/Desert
Storm;
and
10
WHEREAS,
active
duty
military
personnel
from
Iowa,
11
stationed
all
over
the
world,
served
in
Operation
12
Desert
Shield/Desert
Storm
in
all
branches
of
the
13
United
States
Armed
Forces;
and
14
WHEREAS,
six
military
veterans
and
one
civilian
15
contractor
from
Iowa
gave
their
lives
during
Operation
16
Desert
Shield/Desert
Storm;
and
17
WHEREAS,
on
December
19,
2014,
the
National
Desert
18
Storm
War
Memorial
Association
received
congressional
19
and
executive
approval
to
build
a
National
Desert
Storm
20
War
Memorial
in
Washington,
D.C.,
to
honor
the
veterans
21
from
Iowa
and
the
nation
who
were
killed
in
Operation
22
Desert
Shield/Desert
Storm;
and
23
WHEREAS,
February
28,
2016,
marks
the
25th
24
anniversary
of
the
date
a
cease-fire
was
declared
25
concerning
Operation
Desert
Shield/Desert
Storm;
and
26
WHEREAS,
April
6,
2016,
marks
the
25th
anniversary
27
of
the
date
Iraq
officially
accepted
cease-fire
terms

IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
Senate

recognizes
and
shows
support
for
the
future
National

Storm
War
Memorial
in
Washington,
D.C.;
and

BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Senate
commemorates
6
the
25th
anniversary
of
the
date
Iraq
officially
7
accepted
cease-fire
terms
to
conclude
Operation
Desert
8
Shield/Desert
Storm,
April
6,
2016,
and
urges
the
9
citizens
of
this
State
to
honor
those
Iowa
veterans
10
who
served
their
country
during
Operation
Desert

Shield/Desert
Storm.
