Senate Resolution 103 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103 BY BISIGNANO A Resolution commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1 conclusion of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. 2 WHEREAS, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm 3 occurred from August 2, 1990, to April 6, 1991, in the 4 Middle East; and 5 WHEREAS, Iowa-based National Guard and Reserve 6 units, and selected personnel, were deployed to 7 the Middle East in support of Operation Desert 8 Shield/Desert Storm; and 9 WHEREAS, active duty military personnel from Iowa, 10 stationed all over the world, served in Operation 11 Desert Shield/Desert Storm in all branches of the 12 United States Armed Forces; and 13 WHEREAS, six military veterans and one civilian 14 contractor from Iowa gave their lives during Operation 15 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and 16 WHEREAS, on December 19, 2014, the National Desert 17 Storm War Memorial Association received congressional 18 and executive approval to build a National Desert Storm 19 War Memorial in Washington, D.C., to honor the veterans 20 from Iowa and the nation who were killed in Operation 21 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and 22 WHEREAS, February 28, 2016, marks the 25th 23 anniversary of the date a cease-fire was declared 24 concerning Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and 25 WHEREAS, April 6, 2016, marks the 25th anniversary 26 of the date Iraq officially accepted cease-fire terms 27 to conclude Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; NOW 28 -1- LSB 5392SS (1) 86 ec/nh 1/ 2

S.R. 103 THEREFORE, 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 2 recognizes and shows support for the future National 3 Desert Storm War Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and 4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate commemorates 5 the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of Operation 6 Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and urges the citizens of 7 this State to honor those Iowa veterans who served 8 their country during Operation Desert Shield/Desert 9 Storm. 10 -2- LSB 5392SS (1) 86 ec/nh 2/ 2
