1.
NEW
SECTION
.
135.191
Triclosan
prohibition.
1
1.
A
person
shall
not
offer
for
retail
sale
in
this
state
2
any
cleaning
product
that
contains
triclosan
and
is
intended
3
to
be
used
by
the
consumer
for
sanitizing
or
hand
or
body
4
cleansing.

2.
The
prohibition
in
subsection
1
shall
not
apply
to
6
individual
products
for
which
specific
United
States
food
and
7
drug
administration
approval
for
consumer
use
has
been
secured.

3.
A
person
who
violates
this
section
is
subject
to
a
civil
9
penalty
of
one
thousand
dollars
for
each
violation.

Sec.
2.
EFFECTIVE
DATE.
This
Act
takes
effect
January
1,
11
2017.

EXPLANATION
13
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
14
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill,
beginning
January
1,
2017,
prohibits
the
retail
16
sale
of
any
cleaning
product
that
contains
triclosan
and
is
17
intended
to
be
used
by
the
consumer
for
sanitizing
or
hand
or
18
body
cleansing.
The
prohibition
shall
not
apply
to
individual
19
products
for
which
specific
United
States
food
and
drug
20
administration
approval
for
consumer
use
has
been
secured.
The
21
bill
provides
that
a
person
who
violates
the
bill
is
subject
to
22
a
civil
penalty
of
$1,000
for
each
violation.
