S.F. 329 Section 1. HOSPITAL AND LONG-TERM CARE PHARMACY PRACTICE —— 1 PNEUMOCOCCAL VACCINES —— BOARD OF PHARMACY RULES. The board 2 of pharmacy shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 17A relating 3 to hospital and long-term care pharmacy practices that allow, 4 as authorized by federal law, that in addition to influenza 5 and pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines, a written or verbal 6 patient-specific medication administration order shall not 7 be required prior to administration to an adult patient of 8 pneumococcal conjugate vaccine pursuant to physician-approved 9 hospital or facility policy and after the patient has been 10 assessed for contraindications. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill directs the board of pharmacy to adopt rules 15 pursuant to chapter 17A relating to hospital and long-term 16 care pharmacy practice that allow, as authorized by 17 federal law, that in addition to influenza and pneumococcal 18 polysaccharide vaccines, a written or verbal patient-specific 19 medication administration order shall not be required 20 prior to administration to an adult patient of pneumococcal 21 conjugate vaccine pursuant to physician-approved hospital or 22 facility policy and after the patient has been assessed for 23 contraindications. 24 -1- LSB 2385SV (1) 86 pf/nh 1/ 1
