S.F. 2158 Section 1. Section 602.3101, Code 2016, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 3. The supreme court shall supervise the 3 board and may review, approve, modify, or reject any board 4 action, procedure, or decision. The supreme court may adopt 5 rules to implement this subsection. 6 Sec. 2. Section 602.3201, Code 2016, is amended to read as 7 follows: 8 602.3201 Requirement of certification —— use of title —— 9 exempt status . 10 1. A person shall not engage in the profession of shorthand 11 reporting unless the person is certified pursuant to this 12 chapter , or otherwise exempted pursuant to section 602.6603, 13 subsection 4 . Only a person who is certified by the board 14 may assume the title of certified shorthand reporter, or use 15 the abbreviation C.S.R., or any words, letters, or figures to 16 indicate that the person is a certified shorthand reporter. 17 2. If a person’s certification as a shorthand reporter is 18 placed in exempt status, the person nonetheless may transcribe 19 or certify a proceeding the person reported while certified 20 as an active shorthand reporter. A person transcribing or 21 certifying a proceeding pursuant to this subsection shall 22 remain subject to the jurisdiction of the board of examiners 23 of shorthand reporters. 24 EXPLANATION 25 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 26 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 27 This bill relates to the placement of shorthand reporters in 28 exempt status and to the supervision of the board of examiners 29 of shorthand reporters. 30 The bill provides that the supreme court shall supervise the 31 board of examiners of shorthand reporters and have authority to 32 review, approve, modify, or reject a board action, procedure, 33 or decision. S.F. 2158 examiners of shorthand reporters. 1 The bill provides that if a shorthand reporter’s 2 certification is placed in exempt status, the reporter 3 may nonetheless transcribe or certify a proceeding that 4 was reported while the reporter was certified as an active 5 shorthand reporter. A reporter transcribing or certifying a 6 proceeding while in exempt status shall remain subject to the 7 jurisdiction of the board of examiners of shorthand reporters. 8 -2- LSB 5236SV (2) 86 jm/nh 2/ 2
