Section
1.
Section
97B.49B,
subsection
1,
paragraph
e,
Code
1
2016,
is
amended
by
adding
the
following
new
subparagraphs:

SUBPARAGRAPH
.
(15)
A
peace
officer
employed
by
an
3
institution
under
the
control
of
the
state
board
of
regents
4
whose
position
requires
law
enforcement
certification
pursuant
5
to
section
262.13.

NEW
SUBPARAGRAPH
.
(16)
A
person
employed
by
the
department
7
of
human
services
who,
as
a
condition
of
employment,
has
direct
8
contact
with
sexual
offenders
at
a
civil
commitment
unit
9
for
sexually
violent
offenders
facility
and
is
required
to
10
enforce
and
maintain
discipline,
safety,
and
security
at
the
11
facility.
The
department
of
human
services
and
the
department
12
of
administrative
services
shall
jointly
determine
which
job
13
classifications
are
covered
under
this
subparagraph.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
provides
that
persons
employed
as
a
peaceofficer
18
of
a
board
of
regents
institution
or
an
employee
of
the
19
department
of
human
services
who
has
direct
contact
with
20
sexual
offenders
at
a
civil
commitment
unit
for
sexually
21
violent
offenders
facility
are
included
within
the
protection
22
occupation
category
of
the
Iowa
public
employees’
retirement

system.
