S.F. 2007 Section 1. Section 331.433, subsection 2, Code 2016, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. On or before January 20 of each year, the auditor or 3 other designated official shall compile the various office and 4 department estimates and submit them to the board. In the 5 preparation of the county budget the board may shall consult 6 with any the appropriate officer or department concerning the 7 estimates and requests and may adjust the requests for any 8 county office or department only after consulting with the 9 appropriate officer or department . 10 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to the preparation 11 of county budgets for fiscal years beginning on or after July 12 1, 2017. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 As part of the county budgeting process, Code section 17 331.433 provides that after the compilation of various county 18 office and department estimates is submitted to the board 19 of supervisors, the board may consult with any officer or 20 departments concerning those estimates and may adjust such 21 requested amounts. This bill changes the board of supervisors’ 22 authorization to consult with officers and departments into 23 a requirement for consultation with the appropriate officer 24 or department concerning the estimates and requests and any 25 adjustments to the estimates and requests. 26 The bill applies to the preparation of county budgets for 27 fiscal years beginning on or after July 1, 2017. 28 -1- LSB 5059XS (4) 86 md/sc 1/ 1
