The
department
shall
accept
all
eligible
patients
into

mental
health
institutes
through
June
30,
2015.

Sec.
2.
EFFECTIVE
UPON
ENACTMENT.
This
Act,
being
deemed
of

immediate
importance,
takes
effect
upon
enactment.

EXPLANATION
1
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
directs
the
department
of
human
services
to
accept
4
all
eligible
patients
to
the
state
mental
health
institutes
5
through
June
30,
2015
(FY
2014-2015).
Iowa
has
four
mental
6
health
institutes
located
in
Cherokee,
Clarinda,
Independence,
7
and
Mount
Pleasant.
All
state
mental
health
institutes
provide
8
short-term
psychiatric
care
for
severe
symptoms
of
mental
9
illness.
Mount
Pleasant
also
provides
substance
use
disorder
10
treatment.
11
The
bill
is
effective
upon
enactment.
