Section
709.21,
subsection
3,
Code
2015,
is

amended
to
read
as
follows:

person
who
violates
this
section
commits
a
serious

misdemeanor

aggravated
misdemeanor
.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
criminal
offense
of
invasion
of

privacy.

The
bill
changes
the
criminal
penalty
for
invasion
10
of
privacy
from
a
serious
misdemeanor
to
an
aggravated
11
misdemeanor.
An
aggravated
misdemeanor
is
punishable
by
12
confinement
for
no
more
than
two
years
and
a
fine
of
at
least
13
$625
but
not
more
than
$6,250.
14
A
person
who
commits
invasion
of
privacy
is
currently
15
required
to
register
as
a
sex
offender
under
Code
chapter
692A
16
and
is
subject
to
a
10-year
special
sentence
under
Code
section
17
903B.2.
The
bill
continues
those
consequences
for
the
offense
18
of
invasion
of
privacy
punishable
as
an
aggravated
misdemeanor.
