S.F. 14 Section 1. Section 709.21, subsection 3, Code 2015, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 3. A person who violates this section commits a serious 3 misdemeanor an aggravated misdemeanor . 4 EXPLANATION 5 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 6 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 7 This bill relates to the criminal offense of invasion of 8 privacy. 9 The bill changes the criminal penalty for invasion 10 of privacy from a serious misdemeanor to an aggravated 11 misdemeanor. An aggravated misdemeanor is punishable by 12 confinement for no more than two years and a fine of at least 13 $625 but not more than $6,250. 14 A person who commits invasion of privacy is currently 15 required to register as a sex offender under Code chapter 692A 16 and is subject to a 10-year special sentence under Code section 17 903B.2.
