H.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 135.45 Reporting immunizations to 1 registry. 2 1. A pharmacy that administers vaccines pursuant to section 3 155A.44, subsection 4, shall directly report any immunization 4 or vaccine administration to the statewide immunization 5 registry within thirty days following the administration of the 6 immunization or vaccine. 7 2. The department shall adopt rules to implement the 8 requirements of this section. 9 Sec. 2. Section 155A.44, subsection 3, Code 2015, is amended 10 to read as follows: 11 3. Prior to the administration of a vaccination or 12 immunization authorized by subsection 4 , paragraph “b” , 13 subparagraphs (2) through (4), pursuant to the required 14 protocols, a licensed pharmacist shall consult and review the 15 statewide immunization registry or health information network. 16 The board shall adopt rules requiring the reporting of the 17 administration of vaccines and immunizations authorized by 18 subsection 4 , paragraph “b” , subparagraphs (2) through (4), to 19 a patient’s primary health care provider, primary physician, 20 and a the statewide immunization registry or health information 21 network as provided in section 135.45 . 22 EXPLANATION 23 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 24 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 25 This bill requires a pharmacy administering vaccines or 26 immunizations, including certain vaccines and immunizations 27 of patients six through 17 years of age, to report the 28 administration of that immunization or vaccine directly to the 29 statewide immunization registry within 30 days following the 30 administration of the vaccine. The bill also makes changes in 31 the pharmacy Code chapter to reflect the mandatory reporting 32 requirement. 33 The bill directs the department of public health to adopt 34 rules to implement the reporting requirement. 35 -1- LSB 1608YC (2) 86 rh/nh 1/ 1
