House Resolution 30 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 30 BY JORGENSEN , HALL , and DAWSON A Resolution honoring the Morningside College women’s 1 basketball team. 2 WHEREAS, the Morningside College women’s basketball 3 team, the Mustangs, are national champions once again, 4 winning the National Association of Intercollegiate 5 Athletics (NAIA) Division II Women’s Basketball 6 National Championship for the fourth time; and 7 WHEREAS, the Morningside Mustangs held the top spot 8 on each of the 11 regular season polls and ended the 9 season with 37 wins and 1 loss; and 10 WHEREAS, Morningside never led in the first half 11 of the championship game, but persevered to turn the 12 contest around in the final seconds, breaking a 57-57 13 tie when Lexi Ackerman was fouled and, with two seconds 14 remaining, sank two free throws for a 59-57 victory, 15 making this the closest winning margin in NAIA Division 16 II Championship game history; and 17 WHEREAS, the Morningside Mustangs played the 18 championship game without the team’s leading scorer 19 and rebounder, senior forward Ashlynn Muhl, who 20 underwent surgery one day prior to the start of the 21 tournament; and 22 WHEREAS, teammates Jessica Tietz, Jordyn 23 Wollenburg, and Allison Bachman were respectively 24 named the tournament’s most valuable player, given 25 the tournament’s hustle award, and named to the 26 all-tournament second team; and 27 WHEREAS, Coach Jamie Sale, named 2015 Division II 28 -1- LSB 2626YH (3) 86 kh/rj 1/ 2
H.R. 30 Coach of the Year, has accumulated an enviable record 1 during his 13 years at Morningside, including by taking 2 the Mustangs to NAIA II national championships in 2004, 3 2005, and 2009, as well; NOW THEREFORE, 4 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 5 the House of Representatives congratulates Coach Jamie 6 Sale, the other members of the Mustangs coaching staff, 7 and the members of the 2014-2015 Morningside Mustangs 8 women’s basketball team for a thrilling season that 9 culminated in the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball 10 National Championship. 11 -2- LSB 2626YH (3) 86 kh/rj 2/ 2
