Resolution
honoring
the
Marshalltown
Rotary
Club
on

its
centennial
anniversary.

WHEREAS,
Marshalltown
banker
and
businessman
3
Wallace
H.
Arney
organized
an
informal
meeting
attended
4
by
13
local
businessmen,
which
was
followed
by
an
5
organizational
meeting
of
the
Marshalltown
Rotary
6
Club
on
July
7,
1915,
attended
by
52
prospective
7
members;
and
8
WHEREAS,
though
the
Board
of
Rotary
International
9
initially
ruled
that
a
club
could
not
succeed
in
a
town
10
of
less
than
25,000
residents,
the
persistence
of
the
11
founding
members
resulted
in
permission
to
establish
12
the
185th
Rotary
Club
in
the
world;
and
13
WHEREAS,
the
first
meeting
of
the
new
club
was
14
held
on
July
19,
1915,
at
the
Pilgrim
Hotel
at
which
15
Mr.
Arney
was
elected
to
serve
as
the
club’s
first
16
president;
and
17
WHEREAS,
the
club
has
grown
its
membership
to
172,
18
making
it
the
largest
service
club
in
Marshalltown
and
19
one
of
the
largest
Rotary
Clubs
in
the
state;
and
20
WHEREAS,
while
the
city
of
Marshalltown
and
the
21
Marshalltown
Rotary
Club
have
seen
many
changes
over
22
the
years,
the
club
continues
to
provide
“Service
23
Above
Self”
by
working
to
make
lasting
improvements
24
around
the
world
and
at
home
in
Marshalltown
and
the
25
surrounding
area;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
