MOORE , McCONKEY , MOMMSEN , GUSTAFSON , KLEIN , BRANHAGEN , HEATON , ABDUL-SAMAD , BROWN-POWERS , JACOBY , MEYER , HOLT , HUNTER , HUSEMAN , LENSING , KELLEY , STUTSMAN , BERRY , FINKENAUER , STANERSON , BENNETT , MAXWELL , BEST , THEDE , NUNN , RUFF , DUNKEL , and GASSMAN A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the Grand 1 View University Wrestling Team and program on its 2 outstanding athletic achievements. 3 WHEREAS, the 59th annual National Association of 4 Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Wrestling National 5 Championships were held March 4-5, 2016, in Topeka, 6 Kansas; and 7 WHEREAS, the Grand View University Wrestling Team 8 (the Vikings) claimed three national champions, four 9 runners-up, and 10 All-America honors en route to 210 10 points for the championship title; and 11 WHEREAS, the national champion titles and 12 All-America honors were won by Jacob Colon at 133 13 pounds, Michael Pixley at 184 pounds, and Dean 14 Broghammer at 285 pounds; and 15 WHEREAS, national runners-up and All-America honors 16 were bestowed on Grant Henderson at 157 pounds, Dallas 17 Houchins at 165 pounds, Lawton Benna at 174 pounds, and 18 Grant Harrill at 197 pounds; and 19 WHEREAS, additional All-America honors were earned 20 by Godwin Cutler at 133 pounds, Walker Marshall at 141 21 pounds, and Tanner Werner at 157 pounds; and 22 WHEREAS, the championship total of 210 points 23 -1- LSB 6054HH (6) 86 rn/rj 1/ 3
H.R. 109 eclipsed the previous scoring record of 193 points; and 1 WHEREAS, the Vikings are the first team in NAIA 2 history to win five consecutive national titles and 3 only the fifth program in collegiate wrestling history 4 to win five or more consecutive championships; and 5 WHEREAS, Head Coach Nick Mitchell has been voted 6 NAIA 2016 National Wrestling Coach of the Year, the 7 fourth such honor during his eight-year career at Grand 8 View University; and 9 WHEREAS, the Vikings won the divisional title at the 10 National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi-Divisional 11 National Duals conducted in honor of Cliff Keen, held 12 on January 9, 2016, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and were 13 undefeated in dual action; and 14 WHEREAS, the Vikings won the first-ever Heart of 15 America Conference Dual Championships, held on January 16 30, 2016, in Lamoni, Iowa, at which Michael Pixley was 17 named the Heart Newcomer of the Year and Head Coach 18 Mitchell was named the Heart Coach of the Year; and 19 WHEREAS, the Vikings won their sixth consecutive 20 Central National Qualifying Tournament team title, held 21 on February 20, 2016, in Marshall, Missouri, at which 22 Tanner Werner was named the tournament’s outstanding 23 wrestler and Head Coach Mitchell was named Coach of the 24 Year for the sixth time in his career at Grand View 25 University; NOW THEREFORE, 26 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 27 That the House of Representatives recognizes and 28 congratulates the Grand View University Wrestling Team 29 and program on its outstanding achievements; and 30 -2- LSB 6054HH (6) 86 rn/rj 2/ 3
