WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
of
every
race,
class,
and
3
ethnic
background
have
made
historic
contributions
4
to
the
growth
and
strength
of
our
state
and
nation
5
in
countless
recorded
and
unrecorded
ways
including
6
through
the
struggle
for
women’s
rights;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
have
played
and
continued
to
8
play
critical
economic,
cultural,
and
social
roles
in
9
our
state
by
constituting
a
significant
portion
of
the
10
labor
force
working
inside
and
outside
of
the
home
11
despite
being
underpaid;
and
12
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
were
particularly
important
in
13
the
establishment
of
early
charitable,
philanthropic,
14
and
cultural
institutions
in
our
state
and
nation;
and
15
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
and
men
amended
the
Iowa
16
Constitution
to
provide
that
all
men
and
women
are,
by
17
nature,
free
and
equal,
and
have
certain
inalienable
18
rights;
and
19
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
have
been
leaders
in
business,
20
industry,
and
academia,
as
well
as
in
the
abolitionist
21
movement,
the
emancipation
movement,
the
industrial
22
labor
movement,
the
civil
rights
movement,
the
peace
23
movement,
and
the
women’s
suffrage
movement,
helping
to
24
create
a
more
fair
and
just
society
for
all;
and
25
WHEREAS,
despite
these
contributions,
and
those
26
of
women
throughout
the
world,
the
role
of
women
27
has
been
consistently
overlooked
and
undervalued
in

teaching,
and
study
of
history;
NOW

THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

the
House
of
Representatives
designates
March
2016
as
4
Iowa
Women’s
History
Month
and
invites
the
citizens
of
5
Iowa
to
continue
to
discover
the
roles
that
Iowa
women
6
have
played
throughout
the
history
of
our
state
and
7
nation.
