congratulating

Drake
Law
School.

WHEREAS,
the
Drake
Law
School
is
one
of
the
oldest

law
schools
west
of
the
Mississippi
River
and
traces

its
beginnings
to
1865
when
Iowa
Supreme
Court
Justices
4
George
G.
Wright
and
Chester
C.
Cole
established
a
law
5
school
in
Des
Moines;
and
6
WHEREAS,
throughout
its
history,
Drake
University
7
has
been
a
leader
in
legal
education,
helping
form
8
the
Association
of
American
Law
Schools
as
a
charter
9
member
in
1900
and
being
accredited
by
the
American
10
Bar
Association
with
the
first
schools
eligible
in
11
1923;
and
12
WHEREAS,
a
Drake
legal
education
has
enabled
13
thousands
of
lawyers
to
serve
their
communities
and
14
provide
legal
guidance
in
a
wide
range
of
forums
15
benefitting
Iowans
and
clients
in
Iowa
and
throughout
16
the
world;
and
17
WHEREAS,
Iowa’s
executive,
judicial,
and
legislative
18
branches
are
well
served
by
Drake
Law
School
graduates,
19
including
alumni
sitting
as
the
Governor,
the
Chief
20
Justice
of
the
Iowa
Supreme
Court
and
Justices
on
21
the
Court,
Judges
on
the
Iowa
Court
of
Appeals,
and
22
district
judges,
and
as
members
in
both
the
Iowa
House
23
of
Representatives
and
the
Iowa
Senate;
and
24
WHEREAS,
Drake
Law
Centers
provide
outreach
and
25
education
well
beyond
the
campus,
including
the
26
Agricultural
Law
Center,
Constitutional
Law
Center,
27
Intellectual
Property
Law
Center,
Legislative
Practice

Center
for
Children’s
Rights;
and

WHEREAS,
the
Drake
Law
School
and
the
Legislative

Practice
Center
have
a
unique
partnership
with
the

Iowa
General
Assembly
and
those
legislators
who
have

mentored
students
through
internships
over
the
past
15
5
years
and
have
contributed
to
the
policy
experience
6
and
knowledge
of
hundreds
of
lawyers
who
now
work
7
in
Iowa
and
other
states
representing
nonprofit
8
organizations,
and
work
in
state
government,
including
9
in
the
legislative
branch,
and
in
other
public
policy
10
arenas;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

the
House
of
Representatives
congratulates
the
Drake
13
Law
School
on
the
150th
anniversary
of
the
Supreme
14
Court
Justices
founding
the
law
school
in
Des
Moines
15
in
1865.
