H.F. 608 Section 1. Section 279.11, Code 2015, is amended to read as 1 follows: 2 279.11 Number of schools —— attendance —— terms. 3 The board of directors shall determine the number of schools 4 to be taught, divide the corporation into such wards or other 5 divisions for school purposes as may be proper, determine the 6 particular school which each child shall attend, determine 7 class sizes and pupil-teacher ratios, and designate the period 8 each school shall be held beyond the time required by law. The 9 school board shall set a maximum class size goal for grades 10 four through twelve of not more than twenty-two students for 11 every one teacher. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 The bill provides that the board of directors of a school 16 district shall determine class sizes and pupil-teacher ratios, 17 but shall set a maximum class size goal for grades 4 through 12 18 of not more than 22 students for every 1 teacher. 19 -1- LSB 2307YH (1) 86 kh/rj 1/ 1
