H.F. 384 Section 1. Section 298.3, subsection 1, Code 2015, is 1 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 2 NEW PARAGRAPH . n. (1) The repair of any of the following: 3 (a) Equipment or technology eligible to be purchased, 4 leased, or lease-purchased under paragraph “c” . 5 (b) Transportation equipment eligible to be purchased under 6 paragraph “i” . 7 (c) Recreational equipment eligible to be purchased under 8 paragraph “k” . 9 (2) For the purposes of this paragraph, “repair” means 10 restoring an existing item of equipment or technology to 11 its original condition, as near as may be, after gradual 12 obsolescence or physical and functional depreciation due to 13 wear and tear, corrosion and decay, or partial destruction, and 14 includes maintenance of an item of equipment or technology. 15 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to school budget 16 years beginning on or after July 1, 2015. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 Current Code section 298.3 authorizes revenues from the 21 regular and voter-approved physical plant and equipment levies 22 to be used, in part, for the purchase, lease, or lease-purchase 23 of equipment or technology exceeding $500 in value per 24 purchase, lease, or lease-purchase transaction, the purchase 25 of transportation equipment for transporting students, and the 26 purchase of equipment for recreational purposes. This bill 27 authorizes a school district to use revenues from the regular 28 and voter-approved physical plant and equipment levies for the 29 repair of such equipment and technology.
