H.F. 2201 Section 1. Section 481A.48, Code 2016, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 6. The commission shall adopt rules, in 3 accordance with sound fish and wildlife management principles, 4 that allow the taking of up to two bobcats each year in 5 designated areas by a person with a valid fur harvester license 6 and who has paid the wildlife habitat fee, or who is otherwise 7 qualified to hunt or trap. 8 EXPLANATION 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 11 This bill requires the natural resource commission to adopt 12 rules, in accordance with sound fish and wildlife management 13 principles, that allow the taking of up to two bobcats each 14 year in designated areas. Bobcats may be taken by a person 15 with a valid fur harvester license and who has paid the 16 wildlife habitat fee or who is otherwise qualified to hunt or 17 trap without a license, such as a landowner or tenant. 18 Currently, rules adopted by the natural resource commission 19 allow the taking of only one bobcat per year in designated 20 areas. 21 Violations of the bill’s provisions are punishable with a 22 scheduled fine of $100. 23 -1- LSB 5835YH (3) 86 av/nh 1/ 1
