H.F. 2194 Section 1. Section 481A.48, Code 2016, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 6. A person who legally possesses a handgun 3 may carry that handgun while hunting during any hunting season 4 so long as the person is otherwise legally qualified to carry 5 the handgun. However, a person shall not use a handgun to hunt 6 unless the person has a valid hunting license with an unfilled 7 tag that permits use of that handgun to hunt during the season 8 in which the handgun is being used. 9 Sec. 2. Section 805.8B, subsection 3, paragraph h, 10 subparagraph (5), Code 2016, is amended to read as follows: 11 (5) Possession Prohibited use of a prohibited handgun, 12 pistol , or revolver while hunting deer , the scheduled fine is 13 one hundred dollars. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill allows a hunter to carry a handgun while hunting. 18 The bill adds new Code section 481A.48(6) which provides 19 that a person who legally possesses a handgun may carry that 20 handgun while hunting during any hunting season so long as 21 the person is otherwise legally qualified to carry a handgun. 22 However, a person shall not use a handgun to hunt unless the 23 person has a valid hunting license with an unfilled tag that 24 permits the use of that handgun to hunt during the season in 25 which the handgun is being used.
