H.F. 215 Section 1. Section 260C.48, subsection 1, paragraph a, 1 subparagraph (2), Code 2015, is amended to read as follows: 2 (2) Special training and at least six thousand hours of 3 recent and relevant work experience in the occupational area 4 or related occupational area in which the instructor teaches 5 classes if the instructor possesses less than a baccalaureate 6 degree in the area or related area of study or occupational 7 area in which the instructor is teaching classes . If the 8 instructor is a licensed practitioner who holds a career 9 and technical endorsement under chapter 272, relevant work 10 experience in the occupational area includes but is not limited 11 to classroom instruction in a career and technical education 12 subject area offered by a school district or accredited 13 nonpublic school. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 Under current law, in order to qualify as a community 18 college instructor in the subject area of career and technical 19 education, a person must have a baccalaureate or graduate 20 degree in the area or a related area of study or occupational 21 area in which the community college instructor is teaching 22 classes or must have special training and at least 6,000 hours 23 of recent and relevant work experience in the occupational area 24 or related area. This bill allows a licensed practitioner who 25 holds a career and technical endorsement on the practitioner’s 26 Iowa practitioner license and who has work experience in a 27 career and technical occupational area as a classroom teacher 28 in a school district or accredited nonpublic school to count 29 those hours of teaching toward the 6,000 hours of relevant work 30 experience. 31 -1- LSB 1866YH (6) 86 kh/sc 1/ 1
