H.F. 2055 Section 1. Section 674.4, Code 2016, is amended to read as 1 follows: 2 674.4 When granted. 3 A decree of change of name may be granted any time after 4 thirty seven days of the filing of the petition. 5 EXPLANATION 6 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 7 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 8 Code chapter 674 permits a person who has attained the age 9 of majority and who does not have any civil disabilities to 10 file a verified petition with a court requesting a name change. 11 Pursuant to current law, a court may grant a decree of change 12 of name 30 days after the filing of the petition.
