INCLUSION
OF

DISORDERS.
Pursuant
to
section
136A.8,

the
center
for
congenital
and
inherited
disorders,
with
the

assistance
of
the
department
of
public
health,
shall
adopt

rules
to
require
the
screening
of
newborns
for
the
following
5
lysosomal
storage
disorders
as
part
of
the
newborn
metabolic
6
screening
pursuant
to
section
136A.5:

Globoid
cell
leukodystrophy
(Krabbe).
8
2.
Fabry.
9
3.
Pompe.
10
4.
Niemann-Pick.
11
5.
Gaucher.
12
6.
Hurler
syndrome
(MPS
I).

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
directs
the
center
for
congenital
and
inherited

disorders
with
the
assistance
of
the
department
of
public
18
health
to
adopt
rules
to
require
the
screening
of
newborns
19
for
the
six
specified
lysosomal
storage
disorders
(LSDs)
as
20
part
of
the
newborn
metabolic
screening.
The
LSDs
specified
21
are:
Globoid
cell
leukodystrophy
(Krabbe),
Fabry,
Pompe,
22
Niemann-Pick,
Gaucher,
and
Hurler
syndrome
(MPS
I).
