The
department,
in
administering
the
senior
farmers’
market

nutrition
program,
shall
deem
as
eligible
all
categories
of

participants
who
are
eligible
to
receive
benefits
under

C.F.R.
§249.6.

inclusion
of
this
explanation
does

constitute
agreement
with

the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
amends
the
“Iowa
Farmers’
Market
Nutrition
Program
10
Act”
(Code
chapter
175B)
administered
by
the
department
of
11
agriculture
and
land
stewardship.
One
program
administered
12
by
the
department
is
the
senior
farmers’
market
nutrition
13
program
(SFMNP)
as
authorized
by
the
federal
Farm
Security
and
14
Rural
Investment
Act
of
2002
(7
U.S.C.
§3007
and
7
C.F.R.
pt.
15
249).
The
bill
requires
all
categories
of
participants
under
7
16
C.F.R.
§249.6
are
eligible
to
receive
assistance.
That
section
17
mandates
that
generally
participants
must
be
at
least
60
years
18
old,
but
that
states
may
include
persons
who
are
less
than
that
19
age,
including
Native
Americans
who
are
at
least
55
years
old
20
and
certain
disabled
individuals
who
are
less
than
60
years
21
old
living
in
housing
facilities
occupied
primarily
by
older
22
individuals
where
congregate
nutrition
services
are
provided.
