Registration plates issued for a A motor vehicle which 3 is model year 1948 or older, and is reconstructed or specially 4 constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 1948 5 vehicle or older, or was otherwise originally manufactured 6 without a bracket, device, or other means to display and secure 7 a registration plate at the front of the vehicle, other than a 8 truck registered for more than five tons, a motorcycle, or a 9 truck tractor, may display one registration plate on the rear 10 of the vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the 11 vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle 12 is operated on a public highway. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 Generally, a motor vehicle is required to display two 17 registration plates, with one on the front of the vehicle 18 and one on the rear of the vehicle. Current law allows 19 motor vehicles which are model year 1948 or older, or are 20 reconstructed or specially constructed to resemble a model year 21 1948 vehicle or older, to display only one registration plate 22 on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration plate 23 issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times 24 when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. 25 This bill broadens that exception to include any motor 26 vehicle originally manufactured without a bracket, device, or 27 other means to display and secure a registration plate at the 28 front of the vehicle. 29 The scheduled fine for incorrect display of registration 30 plates in violation of Code section 321.37 is $20. 31 -1- LSB 1764YH (2) 86 ns/nh 1/ 1
