H.F. 110 Section 1. Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2015, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 2. Registration plates issued for a A motor vehicle which 3 is model year 1948 or older, and is reconstructed or specially 4 constructed vehicles built to resemble a model year 1948 5 vehicle or older, or which was originally manufactured with a 6 front bumper that sits twenty-four inches from the ground or 7 less, other than a truck registered for more than five tons, a 8 motorcycle, or a truck tractor, may display one registration 9 plate on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration 10 plate issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all 11 times when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 Generally, a motor vehicle is required to display two 16 registration plates, with one on the front of the vehicle 17 and one on the rear of the vehicle. Current law allows 18 motor vehicles which are model year 1948 or older, or are 19 reconstructed or specially constructed to resemble a model year 20 1948 vehicle or older, to display only one registration plate 21 on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration plate 22 issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times 23 when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. 24 This bill broadens that exception to include any motor 25 vehicle originally manufactured with a front bumper that sits 26 24 inches from the ground or less. 27 The scheduled fine for incorrect display of registration 28 plates in violation of Code section 321.37 is $20. 29 -1- LSB 1859YH (1) 86 ns/nh 1/ 1
