S.F. _____ H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 147.74, subsection 21, Code 2014, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 21. A registered nurse licensed under chapter 152 may use 3 the words “registered nurse” or the letters “R. N.” after the 4 person’s name. A licensed practical nurse licensed under 5 chapter 152 may use the words “licensed practical nurse” or 6 the letters “L. P. N.” after the person’s name. An advanced 7 registered nurse practitioner licensed under chapter 152 or 8 152E may use the words “advanced registered nurse practitioner” 9 or the letters “A.R.N.P.” after the person’s name. 10 Sec. 2. Section 152.6, Code 2014, is amended to read as 11 follows: 12 152.6 Licenses —— professional abbreviations. 13 The board may license a natural person to practice as a 14 registered nurse or as a licensed practical nurse. However, 15 only a person currently licensed as a registered nurse in this 16 state may use that title and the abbreviation “R N” letters 17 “R.N.” after the person’s name ; and only a person currently 18 licensed as a licensed practical nurse in this state may use 19 that title and the abbreviation “L P N” letters “L.P.N.” after 20 the person’s name ; and only a person currently licensed as an 21 advanced registered nurse practitioner may use that title and 22 the letters “A.R.N.P.” after the person’s name . For purposes 23 of this section , “currently licensed” includes persons licensed 24 in another state and recognized for licensure in this state 25 pursuant to the nurse licensure compact contained in section 26 152E.1 or pursuant to the advanced practice registered nurse 27 compact contained in section 152E.3 . 28 EXPLANATION 29 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 30 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 31 This bill authorizes the use of the professional title 32 and the abbreviation “A.R.N.P.” by advanced registered nurse 33 practitioners. 34 -1- LSB 5302DP (3) 85 ad/nh 1/ 1
