ULTRASOUNDS.
The
department
of
public
health
shall
adopt
rules
2
pursuant
to
chapter
17A
that
require
a
person
who
performs
3
transvaginal
ultrasounds
in
this
state
to
be
certified
as
a
4
diagnostic
medical
sonographer.
The
rules
shall
specify
the
5
means
by
which
a
person
may
complete
certification,
including
6
but
not
limited
to
credentialing
by
the
American
registry
7
for
diagnostic
medical
sonography.
For
the
purposes
of
this
8
section,
“diagnostic
medical
sonographer”
means
a
person,
9
other
than
a
licensed
practitioner,
who
provides
patient
care
10
services
using
ultrasound.

EXPLANATION

This
bill
directs
the
department
of
public
health
to
adopt
13
rules
pursuant
to
Code
chapter
17A
that
require
a
person
who
14
performs
transvaginal
ultrasounds
in
the
state
to
be
certified
15
as
a
diagnostic
medical
sonographer.
The
rules
are
to
specify
16
the
means
by
which
a
person
may
complete
certification,
17
including
but
not
limited
to
credentialing
by
the
American
18
registry
for
diagnostic
medical
sonography.
“Diagnostic
19
medical
sonographer”
is
defined
as
a
person,
other
than
a
20
licensed
practitioner,
who
provides
patient
care
services
using

ultrasound.
