S.F. 277 Section 1. Section 299.2, subsection 6, Code 2013, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 6. Who is exempted under section 299.24 or 299A.1 . 3 Sec. 2. Section 299A.1, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 2013, 4 is amended to read as follows: 5 The parent, guardian, or legal custodian of a child of 6 compulsory attendance age who places the child under private 7 instruction shall provide, unless otherwise exempted, competent 8 private instruction in accordance with this chapter . A 9 parent, guardian, or legal custodian of a child of compulsory 10 attendance age who places the child under private instruction 11 which is not competent private instruction, or otherwise 12 fails to comply with the requirements of and does not enroll 13 the child in a public school for dual enrollment purposes or 14 in a home school assistance program in accordance with this 15 chapter , is subject to exempt from the provisions requirements 16 of sections 299.1 through 299.4 and the penalties provided in 17 section 299.6 chapter 299 and this chapter . 18 EXPLANATION 19 This bill establishes an exemption from the compulsory 20 education provisions of Code chapter 299 and the competent 21 private instruction provisions of Code chapter 299A for 22 persons who place their child under private instruction but do 23 not enroll the child in a public school for dual enrollment 24 purposes or in a home school assistance program. 25 -1- LSB 2376XS (3) 85 kh/sc 1/ 1
