1.
Section
321.178,
subsection
1,
paragraph
b,
1
subparagraph
(1),
Code
2013,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

(1)
To
be
qualified
as
a
classroom
driver
education
3
instructor,
a
person
shall
have
satisfied
the
educational
4
requirements
for
a
teaching
meet
one
of
the
following
5
requirements:

(a)
Hold
a
valid
teacher’s
license
at
the
elementary
or
7
secondary
level
and
hold
a
valid
license
an
endorsement
to
8
teach
driver
education
in
the
public
schools
of
this
state
9
issued
under
chapter
272
.
10
(b)
Be
a
peace
officer
as
defined
in
section
801.4,
11
subsection
11.
12
(c)
Be
retired
under
chapter
97A
or
411,
or
section
97B.49B
13
or
97B.49C,
after
service
as
a
peace
officer
as
defined
in
14
section
801.4,
subsection
11.

EXPLANATION
16
This
bill
permits
a
person
who
is
a
peace
officer
or
a
17
retired
peace
officer
to
be
qualified
as
a
classroom
driver
18
education
instructor.
Currently,
only
persons
holding
a
19
teaching
license
with
an
endorsement
to
teach
driver
education
20
may
qualify
to
be
a
classroom
driver
education
instructor.

The
term
“peace
officer”
is
currently
defined
in
Code
22
section
801.4,
subsection
11,
to
include
sheriffs,
deputy
23
sheriffs,
marshals
and
police
officers
of
cities,
peace
officer
24
members
of
the
department
of
public
safety,
parole
officers,
25
probation
officers,
special
security
officers
employed
by
26
regents
institutions,
conservation
officers,
employees
of
27
the
department
of
transportation
or
of
an
aviation
authority
28
designated
as
“peace
officers”,
and
such
persons
as
may
be
29
otherwise
so
designated
by
law.
