Section 321I.1, subsection 1, paragraph a, Code 1 2013, is amended to read as follows: 2 a. “All-terrain vehicle” means a motorized vehicle with 3 not less than three and not more than six nonhighway tires 4 that is fifty inches or less in width and is limited in engine 5 displacement to less than one thousand cubic centimeters or 6 less and in total dry weight to less than one thousand two 7 hundred pounds and that has a seat or saddle designed to be 8 straddled by the operator and handlebars for steering control . 9 Sec. 2. Section 321I.1, subsection 17, paragraph a, Code 10 2013, is amended to read as follows: 11 a. “Off-road utility vehicle” means a motorized vehicle with 12 not less than four and not more than eight nonhighway tires or 13 rubberized tracks that is sixty-five inches or less in width 14 and is limited in engine displacement to less than one thousand 15 five hundred cubic centimeters and in total dry weight to not 16 more than two thousand pounds and that has a seat that is of 17 bucket or bench design, not intended to be straddled by the 18 operator, and a steering wheel or control levers for control . 19 EXPLANATION 20 This bill revises the definitions of “all-terrain vehicle” 21 and “off-road utility vehicle” for purposes of Code chapter 22 321I, which provides for the registration and regulation of 23 all-terrain vehicles and off-road utility vehicles by the 24 department of natural resources. 25 The definition of “all-terrain vehicle” is amended by adding 26 a width limitation of 50 inches or less, by limiting the 27 engine displacement to 1,000 cubic centimeters or less, and by 28 striking the requirement that the vehicle have a seat or saddle 29 designed to be straddled by the operator and handlebars for 30 steering control. 31 The definition of “off-road utility vehicle” is amended by 32 adding a width limitation of 65 inches or less and by striking 33 the requirement that the vehicle have a seat of bucket or bench 34 design and a steering wheel or control levers. 35 -1- LSB 1504YC (1) 85 dea/nh 1/ 2
