H.F. _____ Section 1. Section 53.2, subsection 1, paragraph a, Code 1 2013, is amended to read as follows: 2 a. Any registered voter, under the circumstances specified 3 in section 53.1 , may on any day, except after 12:00 p.m. on the 4 Monday before the election and on election day, and not more 5 than seventy days prior to the date of the election, apply in 6 person for an absentee ballot at the commissioner’s office or 7 at any location designated by the commissioner. However, for 8 those elections in which the commissioner directs the polls be 9 opened at noon pursuant to section 49.73 , a voter may apply in 10 person for an absentee ballot at the commissioner’s office from 11 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on election day. 12 EXPLANATION 13 This bill relates to absentee voting at the office of the 14 county commissioner of elections. 15 The bill removes current provisions requiring that a voter 16 be allowed to vote in person at the county commissioner’s 17 office from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on election day for 18 those elections when the commissioner directs the polls to be 19 opened at noon. 20 The bill also provides that a voter is allowed to vote in 21 person at the county commissioner’s office until noon on the 22 Monday before an election. 23 -1- LSB 1964YC (2) 85 aw/sc 1/ 1
