Resolution
commending
the
nation
of
Israel
for
its

cordial
and
mutually
beneficial
relationship
with

the
United
States
and
with
the
State
of
Iowa.

WHEREAS,
Israel
has
been
granted
her
lands
under
4
and
through
the
oldest
recorded
deed,
as
recorded
in
5
the
Old
Testament,
a
tome
of
scripture
held
sacred
and
6
revered
by
Jews
and
Christians
alike,
as
presenting
the
7
acts
and
words
of
God;
and
8
WHEREAS,
the
claim
and
presence
of
the
Jewish
people
9
in
Israel
has
remained
constant
throughout
the
past
10
4,000
years
of
history;
and
11
WHEREAS,
the
legal
basis
for
the
establishment
of
12
the
modern
state
of
Israel
was
a
binding
resolution
13
under
international
law,
which
was
unanimously
adopted
14
by
the
League
of
Nations
in
1922
and
subsequently
15
affirmed
by
both
houses
of
the
United
States
16
Congress;
and
17
WHEREAS,
this
resolution
affirmed
the
establishment
18
of
a
national
home
for
the
Jewish
people
in
the
19
historical
region
of
the
Land
of
Israel,
including
the
20
areas
of
Judea,
Samaria,
and
Jerusalem;
and
21
WHEREAS,
Article
80
of
the
United
Nations
Charter
22
recognized
the
continued
validity
of
the
rights
23
granted
to
states
or
peoples
which
already
existed
24
under
international
instruments,
and,
therefore,
the
25
1922
League
of
Nations
resolution
remains
valid,
and

the
650,000
Jews
currently
residing
in
the
areas
of
1
Judea,
Samaria,
and
eastern
Jerusalem
reside
there
2
legitimately;
and
3
WHEREAS,
Israel
declared
its
independence
and
4
self-governance
on
May
14,
1948,
with
the
goal
of
5
reestablishing
its
God-given
and
legally
recognized
6
lands
as
a
homeland
for
the
Jewish
people;
and
7
WHEREAS,
the
United
States,
having
been
the
first
8
country
to
recognize
Israel
as
an
independent
nation
9
and
as
Israel’s
principal
ally,
has
enjoyed
a
close
and
10
mutually
beneficial
relationship
with
Israel
and
her
11
people;
and
12
WHEREAS,
Israel
is
the
greatest
friend
and
ally
of
13
the
United
States
in
the
Middle
East
and
the
values
14
of
our
two
nations
are
so
intertwined
that
it
is
15
impossible
to
separate
one
from
the
other;
and
16
WHEREAS,
there
are
those
in
the
Middle
East
who
have
17
continually
sought
to
destroy
Israel,
from
the
time
18
of
its
inception
as
a
state,
and
those
same
enemies
19
of
Israel
also
hate,
and
seek
to
destroy,
the
United
20
States;
and
21
WHEREAS,
the
State
of
Iowa
and
Israel
have
enjoyed
22
cordial
and
mutually
beneficial
relations
since
1948,
23
a
friendship
that
continues
to
strengthen
with
each
24
passing
year;
NOW
THEREFORE,
25
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
26
the
House
of
Representatives
commends
Israel
for
its
27
cordial
and
mutually
beneficial
relationship
with
the
28
United
States
and
with
the
State
of
Iowa
and
supports
29
Israel
in
its
legal,
historical,
moral,
and
God-given

right
of
self-governance
and
self-defense
upon
the
1
entirety
of
its
own
lands,
recognizing
that
Israel
is
2
neither
an
attacking
force
nor
an
occupier
of
the
lands
3
of
others,
and
that
peace
can
be
afforded
the
region
4
only
through
a
whole
and
united
Israel.
