House Resolution 33 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 33 BY HEARTSILL A Resolution recognizing Knoxville as the birthplace of 1 the Iowa State Flag. 2 WHEREAS, March 29, 2013, marks the 92nd Anniversary 3 of the adoption of the Iowa State Flag by the 39th Iowa 4 General Assembly; and 5 WHEREAS, Knoxville is known as the birthplace of the 6 Iowa State Flag; and 7 WHEREAS, Knoxville resident Dixie Cornell Gebhardt, 8 along with other members of the Mary Marion Chapter of 9 the Daughters of the Revolution of Knoxville, designed 10 the Iowa flag in 1917; and 11 WHEREAS, the Honorable Terry Branstad, Governor of 12 the State of Iowa will proclaim March 29, 2013, as Iowa 13 State Flag Day; and 14 WHEREAS, the blue stripe of the banner stands for 15 loyalty, justice, and truth, the broad white stripe for 16 purity, and the red stripe for courage; and 17 WHEREAS, the eagle carries blue streamers inscribed 18 with the state motto, “Our Liberties We Prize and Our 19 Rights We Will Maintain”; NOW THEREFORE, 20 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 21 the House of Representatives recognizes Knoxville as 22 the birthplace of the Iowa State Flag and recognizes 23 March 29, 2013, as Iowa State Flag Day. 24 -1- LSB 2514HH (5) 85 jr/rj 1/ 1
