Resolution
recognizing
and
honoring
the
men
and
women

of
Iowa’s
utility
companies
and
their
contractors

for
their
untiring
service
during
the
Hurricane

Sandy
crisis.

WHEREAS,
in
times
of
crisis
Iowans
have
a
long
and
5
proud
history,
helping
each
other
and
their
fellow
6
Americans;
and
7
WHEREAS,
that
dedication
was
recently
evident
8
when
employees
of
Iowa’s
utility
companies
and
their
9
contractors
stepped
forward
to
help
their
fellow
10
Americans,
rushing
to
the
East
Coast
to
restore
11
electric
and
natural
gas
service
to
thousands
of
12
utility
customers
who
were
left
cold
and
in
the
dark
by
13
the
super
storm;
and
14
WHEREAS,
many
crews
worked
an
average
of
16-hour
15
days
for
two
consecutive
weeks;
and
16
WHEREAS,
in
recognition
of
their
extraordinary
17
service,
the
Edison
Electric
Institute
presented
18
Alliant
Energy
and
MidAmerican
Energy
Company
with
19
its
annual
2012
Emergency
Assistance
Award,
which
20
recognizes
extraordinary
efforts
undertaken
in
21
restoring
electric
and
natural
gas
service
that
has
22
been
disrupted
by
severe
weather
conditions
or
other
23
natural
events;
NOW
THEREFORE,
24
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
25
the
House
of
Representatives
honors
the
men
and
women
26
of
Iowa’s
utility
companies
and
their
contractors
who
27
left
their
homes
and
families
during
the
holiday
season
