King, Iowa has a long, 4 strong, and proud tradition of band music; and 5 WHEREAS, music education within school band programs 6 has repeatedly been proven to positively influence 7 student achievement in all curriculums; and 8 WHEREAS, community support for quality school music 9 programs shows a dedication to the sense of pride and 10 community that school bands can provide; and 11 WHEREAS, school band programs demonstrate that a 12 well-rounded music education can be key to a student’s 13 success in life and learning; and 14 WHEREAS, the weekend of May 9 and 10, 2014, are 15 state band contest days; and 16 -1- LSB 6109HH (4) 85 jr/nh 1/ 2
