Section

Code

is
amended
to
read

as
follows:

321.456
Height
of
vehicles.
3
1.
A
vehicle
unladen
or
with
load
shall
not
exceed
a
height
4
of
thirteen
feet,
six
inches,
except
that
a
for
the
following:

a.
A
vehicle
or
combination
of
vehicles
coupled
together
and
6
used
exclusively
for
the
transportation
of
passenger
vehicles,
7
light
delivery
trucks,
panel
delivery
trucks,
pickup
trucks,
8
or
recreational
vehicle
chassis
may
operate
with
a
height
not
9
to
exceed
fourteen
feet.

b.
A
flatbed
trailer
being
used
to
transport
hay,
straw,
or
11
stover
may
be
moved
on
a
noninterstate
highway
with
a
height
12
not
to
exceed
fourteen
feet
six
inches.

This
section
shall
not
be
construed
to
require
any
14
railroad
or
public
authorities
to
provide
sufficient
vertical
15
clearance
to
permit
the
operation
of
such
vehicle
upon
the
16
highways
of
this
state.
Any
damage
to
highways,
highway
or
17
railroad
structures,
or
underpasses
caused
by
the
height
of
18
any
vehicle
provided
for
by
this
section
shall
be
borne
by
the
19
operator
or
owner
of
the
vehicle.

EXPLANATION
21
Currently,
the
height
limit
established
for
vehicles
22
operated
on
a
highway
is
13
feet,
six
inches.
This
bill
raises
23
the
height
limit
to
14
feet,
six
inches,
for
flatbed
trailers
24
loaded
with
hay,
straw,
or
stover
when
moved
on
a
noninterstate
25
highway.

Pursuant
to
current
law,
any
damage
to
highways,
highway
or
27
railroad
structures,
or
underpasses
caused
by
the
height
of
28
a
vehicle
is
the
responsibility
of
the
owner
of
the
vehicle.
29
A
person
who
operates
a
vehicle
in
violation
of
height
30
restrictions
is
guilty
upon
conviction
of
a
simple
misdemeanor
31
punishable
by
a
scheduled
fine
of
$200.
