H.F. 2381 Section 1. Section 724.1, subsection 8, Code 2014, is 1 amended by striking the subsection. 2 Sec. 2. NEW SECTION . 724.3A Firearm suppressors. 3 Any person, trust, corporation, or other entity may possess 4 a firearm suppressor if the firearm suppressor is registered 5 and possessed in compliance with federal law and regulations. 6 EXPLANATION 7 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 8 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 9 This bill relates to the authorized possession of firearm 10 suppressors. 11 Under current law, a mechanical device that silences, 12 muffles, or suppresses the sound of a firearm when fired is 13 defined as an offensive weapon. A person who is not otherwise 14 authorized to possess an offensive weapon is guilty of a class 15 “D” felony. 16 The bill allows any person, trust, corporation, or other 17 entity to lawfully possess a firearm suppressor if the 18 suppressor is registered and possessed in compliance with 19 federal law and regulations. 20 -1- LSB 1515HV (2) 85 rh/rj 1/ 1
