H.F. 2052 Section 1. Section 105.18, subsection 2, paragraph b, 1 subparagraph (1), subparagraph division (c), Code 2014, is 2 amended to read as follows: 3 (c) Provide the board with evidence of having completed 4 at least four years of practical experience as an apprentice. 5 Commencing January 1, 2010, the Alternatively, a person 6 applying for a journeyperson license for HVAC-refrigeration 7 may provide evidence of having successfully completed a 8 two-year HVAC-refrigeration program at an Iowa community 9 college. The four years of practical experience required by 10 this subparagraph division must be an apprenticeship training 11 program registered by the United States department of labor 12 office of apprenticeship. 13 EXPLANATION 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 16 Currently, persons wishing to obtain a journeyperson license 17 in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, ducted systems, or 18 refrigeration (HVAC-refrigeration) must first obtain at least 19 four years of practical experience as a licensed apprentice. 20 This bill provides an alternative to the four-year experience 21 requirement for persons applying for a journeyperson license 22 for HVAC-refrigeration: successful completion of a two-year 23 HVAC-refrigeration program at an Iowa community college. 24 The applicant must also pass the state journeyperson 25 licensing examination. 26 -1- LSB 5663YH (2) 85 jr/nh 1/ 1
