to
read
as
follows:

(c)
Provide
the
board
with
evidence
of
having
completed

least
four
years
of
practical
experience
as
an
apprentice.

Commencing
January
1,
2010,
the
Alternatively,

person

applying
for
a
journeyperson
license
for
HVAC-refrigeration

may
provide
evidence
of
having
successfully
completed
a

two-year
HVAC-refrigeration
program
at
an
Iowa
community

college.
The
four
years
of
practical
experience
required
by

this
subparagraph
division
must
be
an
apprenticeship
training

program
registered
by
the
United
States
department
of
labor

office
of
apprenticeship.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Currently,
persons
wishing
to
obtain
a
journeyperson
license
17
in
heating,
ventilation,
air
conditioning,
ducted
systems,
or
18
refrigeration
(HVAC-refrigeration)
must
first
obtain
at
least
19
four
years
of
practical
experience
as
a
licensed
apprentice.
20
This
bill
provides
an
alternative
to
the
four-year
experience
21
requirement
for
persons
applying
for
a
journeyperson
license
22
for
HVAC-refrigeration:
successful
completion
of
a
two-year
23
HVAC-refrigeration
program
at
an
Iowa
community
college.
24
The
applicant
must
also
pass
the
state
journeyperson
25
licensing
examination.
