H.F. 2051 Section 1. Section 322G.2, subsection 13, Code 2014, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 13. “Motor vehicle” means a self-propelled vehicle purchased 3 or leased in this state, except as provided in section 322G.15 , 4 and primarily designed for the transportation of persons or 5 property over public streets and highways, but does not include 6 mopeds, motorcycles, motor homes, or vehicles over ten fifteen 7 thousand pounds gross vehicle weight rating. 8 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to motor vehicles 9 originally purchased or leased by consumers on or after July 10 1, 2014. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill changes the definition of “motor vehicle” for 15 purposes of Code chapter 322G, Iowa’s “lemon law” relating to 16 defective motor vehicles. Currently, the law applies to motor 17 vehicles primarily designed for the transportation of persons 18 or property, other than mopeds, motorcycles, motor homes, or 19 vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 20 pounds. The bill raises the upper weight limit for vehicles 21 covered under the lemon law to 15,000 pounds. 22 The bill applies to motor vehicles originally purchased or 23 leased by consumers on or after July 1, 2014. 24 -1- LSB 5692HH (2) 85 dea/tm 1/ 1
