1.
Section
322G.2,
subsection
13,
Code
2014,
is

amended
to
read
as
follows:

13.
“Motor
vehicle”
means
a
self-propelled
vehicle
purchased

or
leased
in
this
state,
except
as
provided
in
section
322G.15
,

and
primarily
designed
for
the
transportation
of
persons
or

property
over
public
streets
and
highways,
but
does
not
include
6
mopeds,
motorcycles,
motor
homes,
or
vehicles
over
ten
fifteen
7
thousand
pounds
gross
vehicle
weight
rating.

APPLICABILITY.
This
Act
applies
to
motor
vehicles
9
originally
purchased
or
leased
by
consumers
on
or
after
July
10
1,
2014.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
13
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
changes
the
definition
of
“motor
vehicle”
for
15
purposes
of
Code
chapter
322G,
Iowa’s
“lemon
law”
relating
to
16
defective
motor
vehicles.
Currently,
the
law
applies
to
motor
17
vehicles
primarily
designed
for
the
transportation
of
persons
18
or
property,
other
than
mopeds,
motorcycles,
motor
homes,
or
19
vehicles
with
a
gross
vehicle
weight
rating
of
more
than
10,000
20
pounds.
The
bill
raises
the
upper
weight
limit
for
vehicles
21
covered
under
the
lemon
law
to
15,000
pounds.
22
The
bill
applies
to
motor
vehicles
originally
purchased
or
23
leased
by
consumers
on
or
after
July
1,
2014.
